Dallas County is located in north central Texas. The county is bordered by Kaufman and Rockwall counties to the east, Tarrant County to the west, Denton and Collin counties to the north, and Ellis County to the south. Dallas is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Dallas County comprises 902 square miles of the primarily flat, heavy Blackland Prairie.

In 1845 voters approved the need for Dallas County to become a reality. The vote passed by a large margin of 29 to 3. On March 30, 1846, Dallas County was officially formed from portions of Nacogdoches and Robertson counties, and is said to have been named for George Mifflin Dallas. The city of Dallas became the county seat, via the voting process in 1850.

Throughout history Dallas County has had an abundance of Hispanic citizens. In 1839 Mexican traders were in the well known in the Dallas area, and in 1850 Dallas County had its first Hispanic resident listed in the census. Downtown Dallas had Hispanic businesses by 1875. The arrival of the railroad attracted Mexican settlers both as railroad workers and as passengers on their way to agricultural jobs.

As Dallas County became more urban the education of its residents improved. These comprised over 300 elementary schools, 70 middle schools, and 70 high schools, as well as special-education and vocational schools. Besides the regular schools, many colleges are available in the area and have been for years. There are also a large variety of technical and vocational schools teaching almost every conceivable skill.

The three largest employers tend to be in the service industry, primarily hotels, retail trades, and manufacturing.

Dallas County has more than 28,000 acres in parks. This consists of one county park and 572 municipal parks. This allows for numerous outdoor activities. You will be able to find sporting events, picnics, trails, nature sites, swimming, biking, and more.

A number of museums are located in Dallas County as well. These include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Science Place, and the Mexican American Cultural Heritage Center.

The county has too many special events to list, they include the State Fair of Texas, the Dallas Grand Prix, and the Cotton Bowl Classic football game.
